The Research and Reflection Network on Pesticide Resistance (R4P) was created in 2011. It is supported by INRAE division of Plant Health.

It comprises a dozen of scientists from INRA, Anses and the French Ministry of Agriculture, involved in research activities on pest adaptation to pesticides, both natural and synthetic. In terms of expertise, it covers the fields of insecticide, herbicide and fungicide resistance. The various members of the network are heavily involved in the detection, monitoring, characterization, evolution and/or management of resistant pests, as part of their respective activities. Numerous collaborations, both in France and internationally, have been developed on these aspects. Much effort is also dedicated to training and knowledge transfer towards pesticide users and public bodies. R4P is led by Anne-Sophie Walker and Christophe Délye.

The R4P network aims to:

  • maintain public expertise on pesticides and respond to requests from the profession
  • share knowledge and methodologies on pesticide resistance
  • promote bilateral transfers of expertise between research and practioners
  • promote an evolutionary approach to the study of pesticide resistance, so as to be able to anticipate and predict it
  • concentrate the forces available in France on the theme of pesticide resistance and develop joint research projects
  • contribute to a reasonable, reasoned and sustainable use of PPPs, and beyond, of alternative methods.

R4P has a generic e-mail address (contact-r4p@listes.inra.fr) that can be used to ask questions and information in the area of expertise of the network, and a website providing independent information on the status of resistance in France, as well as various educational documents and documentary resources (https://www.r4p-inra.fr). R4P has organized three editions in 2013, 2015 and 2017 of the "Journées d'Echanges sur les Résistances" (JER), aiming at raising awareness and training PPP resistance managers as part of its support for the Ecophyto plan.
